Photofacial Skin Rejuvenation, also known as IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) is a series of light-based treatments to rejuvenate the skin resulting in a more youthful appearance. An IPL Photofacial Skin Rejuvenation treatment improves the appearance of Rosacea, sun damage, and age spots. It also reduces redness and flushing and is a great treatment for mild acne scars. The IPL Photofacial Skin Rejuvenation treatment uses specific light parameters to improve the texture and color of the skin with absolutely NO DOWNTIME.
An IPL Photofacial harnesses the power of light technology to improve the appearance of sun-damaged and aged skin. Intense Pulsed Light is emitted through a handheld device to the areas being treated for improvement. Discoloration on the face such as brown spots, rosacea, and vascular and benign discolorations such as facial spider veins and port wine stains can all be diminished to give the face a more evenly toned appearance. IPL, which is different than laser treatments, emits light over multiple wavelengths allowing the light to penetrate to all the levels of the skin where the specific defects can be detected. Most lasers produce only a single wavelength of light and are limited in depth of penetration and what they can treat. This is the advantage of the use of intense light rather than the single wavelength of a laser. With the use of the IPL, without damaging the skin, the light penetrates through the skin and is absorbed by dilated vessels and excessive pigmentation. The heat impairs the vessel or the lesion.
There is minimal, if any, discomfort during the IPL Photofacial treatment and it can be used on the face, chest, neck, back, hands, and arms with excellent results. Each treatment takes about 30 minutes. There is usually mild redness immediately following treatment, lasting less than 24 hours in most people. On rare occasions the redness may last up to three days.
The IPL Photofacial Skin Rejuvenation has been shown to result in smoother skin with visible improvement in irregular pigmentation, fine wrinkles and pore size. In addition, IPL treatments can help combat acne. Flushing, redness and symptoms of rosacea have also shown dramatic improvement. For best results, a series of six (6) treatments are scheduled two to three weeks apart. It may also be helpful to return for periodic touch up treatments to maintain your results.
